DoubleLine Capital CEO Jeffrey Gundlach said Wednesday that he now sees no more than one interest rate cut this year as the Federal Reserve keeps policy tight to fight stubborn inflation. "The inflation rate clearly is the one that is lacking progress as [Jerome Powell] put it, so I'm going to lean on one rate cut," Gundlach said on CNBC's " Closing Bell." "Higher for longer … seems like the mantra continues, but without a rate hike. Treasury yields dropped to their session lows and stocks shot to session highs as Powell said the next policy move will not be a rate increase. "I think it's unlikely that the next policy rate move will be a hike.

Boeing taps debt market to raise $10 billion: Reuters

The Boeing logo is displayed on a Boeing building on January 8, 2024 in El Segundo, California. Boeing on Monday tapped debt markets to raise $10 billion, after the U.S. planemaker burned $3.93 billion in free cash during the first quarter following slowing production of its best-selling jet, sources familiar with the matter said. Moody's said the rating reflects Boeing's still-strong business profile, which continues to mitigate ongoing weak performance in commercial aircraft, although headwinds surrounding the division could persist through 2026. Boeing will use the bond proceeds to increase its liquidity ahead of maturities on its existing debt load, including $4.3 billion in 2025, S&P wrote on Monday. The deal's bookrunners leading the bond sale include Bank of America , Citi, JPMorgan and Wells Fargo , according to the deal's term sheet.

Yields may be down from last year's highs, but there is still plenty for income investors to like about investment-grade corporate bonds, according to UBS. The effective yield on the ICE BofA U.S. Corporate Bond Index , which tracks the performance of U.S. dollar-denominated investment-grade corporate debt, is currently hovering around 5.5%. "This measures IG's return over duration-matched Treasuries, meaning that it's been advantageous to own IG over U.S. government bonds," he added. Inside the investment grade market, UBS prefers the financial sector over nonfinancial issuers, and favors short- and intermediate-term duration. Meanwhile, the spread pickup from A-rated bonds to BBB-rated bonds is historically tight, on average.

Interest in fixed income has increased over the past year after rising bond yields put them back on investors' radars. Related storiesCorporate bonds with high yields are the new darling as investors dig for returns that beat inflation, Klein said. The Bloomberg US Corporate High Yield Index, a measurement of non-investment grade bonds, has a yield to worst (a measure of the lowest possible yield) of 7.65% and a one-year total return of 12.9%. It's unusual for equities to be doing very well and high yield to be doing poorly, he added. But buyers beware: high-yield bonds are also called non-investment grade and junk bonds, and it's for good reason.

Such a move would bode well for fixed income, including municipal bonds. Recent data from Columbia Threadneedle Investments and Bloomberg, shows that muni bonds can see a jump in cumulative tax-equivalent returns once the Fed begins cutting rates. When taking into account the tax savings, muni bond investors don't have to take that much risk to capture attractive yields. Rising flows and higher yields Investors have been pouring money into muni bond funds lately. BlackRock's iShares National Muni Bond ETF (MUB) , meanwhile, has seen an exodus of more than $1 billion in flows this year, but it experienced inflows of $150.9 million in the past week.

Tiendas BBB (3B), Mexico's largest discount food chain, has strong growth potential, according to JPMorgan. 3B — short for "bueno, bonito y barato," or "good, nice and cheap" — is "good, nice and high growth with solid returns," according to analyst Joseph Giordano. Compared to other markets such as Colombia, Turkey and Germany in which hard discount stores have a penetration rate of 20% or higher, the rate stands at only 2% in Mexico, said Giordano. That means 3B — which is already among the largest discount food retailers in Mexico — has room to expand boost store productivity. Giordano forecasts 3B reaching a 5-year compound annual growth rate of 15%, setting it apart from its local competition.

New York CNN —After decades of growth bolstered by low interest rates and easy credit, commercial real estate has hit a wall. I take that as a signal of a potential turn in the CMBS market in terms of the market sentiment. It’s not just all gloom and doom in the CRE market. Richmond Federal Reserve President Tom Barkin echoed the idea that the central bank may not cut interest rates this year. OPEC+, a coalition of the world’s top oil producing countries, had announced voluntary oil cuts of 2.2 million barrels per day in November.

Late Friday, Moody's Investors Service cut the deposit rating of NYCB's main banking subsidiary by four notches, to Ba3 from Baa2, putting it three levels below investment grade. The downgrade could trigger contractual obligations from business clients of NYCB who require the bank to maintain an investment grade deposit rating, according to analysts who track the company. But the figures are from the day before Moody's began slashing the bank's ratings, sparking speculation about possible flight of deposits since then. For instance, while Fitch Ratings cut NYCB's credit ratings to junk last week, it kept the bank's long-term uninsured deposits at BBB-, one level above junk. To replace deposits, NYCB could raise brokered deposits, issue new debt or borrow from the Federal Reserve's facilities, but that would all probably come at a higher cost, McGratty said.

The benefits Income generation: The primary benefit of selling covered calls is the ability to generate income on your stock holdings. Candidates for selling covered calls Stocks with moderate growth expectations: Stocks that are expected to grow steadily but not explosively are good candidates. LONDON — Far-right Dutch lawmaker Geert Wilders' hopes of becoming prime minister of the Netherlands are dwindling after coalition talks fell into disarray Tuesday. Wilders took to social media Tuesday evening to berate Omtzigt's withdrawal, calling the decision "incredibly disappointing." I don't understand it at all," Wilders wrote in a post on X, according to a Google translation. However, former Labor Party minister Ronald Plasterk, who has been leading the talks, earlier flagged finances as a major sticking point in talks. Alternatively, if no combination of parties can agree to form a coalition, a new election could be called.

France this week announced a series of measures for farmers in light of the protests. BondBloxx is set to debut three new funds on Thursday: BBB Rated 1-5 Year Corporate Bond ETF (BBBS) , BBB Rated 5-10 Year Corporate Bond ETF (BBBI) and BBB Rated 10+ Year Corporate Bond ETF (BBBL). Bonds rated BBB or an equivalent are considered the last rung of investment grade credit. Tony Kelly, co-founder of BondBloxx, said BBB credit is the "not-so-secret sauce" for active managers trying to beat credit benchmarks. Of course, economic downturns are always a concern for corporate credit. This is not unusual for corporate bond funds since banks and other financial institutions issue a lot of short-term debt, but it does suggest that the funds could have some concentration risk.

In a sea of income-generating exchange-traded funds, BlackRock 's actively managed Flexible Income ETF (BINC) seeks to stand out with a multisector approach that balances high quality and high yield. "The way we built this portfolio is marrying high yield, investment-grade credit, agency mortgages and securitized [products]," Rieder said in an interview. Rieder said he's investing more in European high yield these days because of the strong U.S. dollar. "That is really attractive — and European high yield is cheaper than U.S.," he said. In U.S. high yield, single-B-rated debt is the most attractive, the investor said.

Indeed, investors get paid for taking a small step down in credit quality in the muni bond space. What's even sweeter is that municipal bond income is generally exempt from federal income tax. This also means high income investors would have to scoop up a higher yielding corporate bond to get the same tax-advantaged yield a muni bond would generate. A measured amount of risk Munis offer lower yields compared to their corporate counterparts, but they also carry significantly less risk. Lower risk, however, doesn't necessarily mean risk free.

Bank of America has upgraded wind energy giant Ørsted from "neutral" to "buy" citing an improved risk-reward profile for the battered stock. However, Bank of America analysts expect Orsted's fortunes to improve in 2024 and have raised their price target from $15.06 per share to $22.80, representing nearly 20% upside from current levels. The upgrade and price target boost come after the stock has already staged a more-than-50% recovery from its November lows. Its remaining U.S. exposure consists primarily of the Sunrise Wind project off Long Island, which still needs state contract approval, according to the bank. Even if Sunrise Wind falls through, the analysts believe the downside to Ørsted shares would be manageable.
